Exhibit of the Week

Each week, one or two exhibits (or animals) will be featured at this spot! Your guides will be the Museum's Cristo Rey High School student interns Juan and Penelope.

Hello! My name is Penelope and I am in 9th grade at Cristo Rey High School. My favorite subject in school is science because you can have fun experimenting with the chemicals. My favorite area in science is nature because I love to explore and find out everything there is about nature, especially how trees can stay up without falling when they are so old and moldy. When i get older, I want to become an immigration lawyer because I want to help people who were born in Mexico come to the United States and have an opportunity to have a better life.

Hello! My  name is Juan and I’m in the 9th grade at Cristo Rey High School. My favorite subject in school is theology because the class is fun, and the teacher is an amazing, great teacher. My favorite area in science is life science because I think that is very interesting and it can explain a lot about the living things on this planet. I want to be a pediatrician when I get older because I would love to work with children that need help.

Mountain Horned Dragon

The Museum’s Mountain Horned Dragons were born in 2011. The species is a mountain forest inhabitant of southern China and Sumatra. They spend most of their days up on trees. They are carnivores, eating worms and crickets. The male lizards are very territorial and prefer to only live with females. The personality of the Mountain Horned Dragon is quiet and docile. However, signs of aggression include the opening of the mouth and bobbing of the head. The bobbing of the head can also be a sign of mating, so if a male and a female are together, and head bobbing occurs, there is no reason for alarm.

Bump

Bump is a male Three-Toed Box Turtle. He was born in 1958, which means he is 54 years old. Bump is a very active and friendly turtle. He loves to eat live worms and if you feed him just vegetables, he will look at them and walk away. Bump is not shy at all. If he sees you looking at him he will come to you and do the same thing. He is a very smart and determined turtle because when he wants to go in the water, he sometimes falls off the rock he is trying to climb, but that doesn’t stop him from looking for other rocks until he finally finds a way to get in.

Three-Toed Box Turtles have a domed shell which grows to an average 4.5 to 6 inches in length. Turtles and tortoises are one of the oldest reptile groups, first appearing over 215 million years ago.
