So much science, so little time.Each weekend from 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Museum explores a new science topic through special displays, visiting exhibits, and guest presentations—followed by free craft activities for kids 4 to 12 years old! Planetarium shows at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. (ages 4 and older, please) and Creature Features at noon and 2:00 p.m. (all ages) are included with admission. May Discovery Weekends:May 5th and 6th: Space Days! Talk with Cosmos, our resident robot, construct a capsule to protect your egg-o-naut from a two-story fall, visit with representatives from the Sacramento Area Rocketry Group, learn about the future of space travel with Dr. Bekah during our Family Feature, and dress up as an astronaut! Click here for more information. May 12th and 13th: Nikon's Small World Opening It really is a small world after all! The small world microphotography exhibit is on national tour and the Discovery Museum is its only California appearance! A Microscope Lab is available for visitors: older kids (and adults) can have fun with the pond water lab; junior scientists enjoy stereoscopes and magnifying glasses. May 15th: Science & Sushi at Oshima Sushi Fugu Lounge This month: "The Science of Beer" by Charlie Bamforth. Trivia contest with prizes! May 19th and 20th: Learn a Lot About Little Learn a lot about little things. Different activity stations are set up in the Nikon's Small World photography exhibit, teaching science on a nano-scale. Enjoy hands-on activities that explore the smallest levels of our world. May 20th: Solar Eclipse Viewing Party 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Reservations are required. May 26th - 28th: It's Butterfly Time Flutter by the Discovery Museum this holiday weekend and enjoy a bounty of butterfly activities. Inside our Nikon's Small World exhibit, investigate cases of butterfly specimens, view butterfly wings using stereoscopes, and create butterfly rings. In our classroom, kids 12 and under can craft a butterfly life cycle. Don't forget to enjoy our grounds - bring a picnic lunch and check out the butterfly garden! |
