Exploring Nature Session A

Have fun with nature while earning your Eco-Explorer Try-It at the Discovery Museum Science & Space Center.  Make a habitat diorama for animals.  Explore 14 acres and find living and non-living things for your eco-list.  Have fun enhancing our nature area with plants that help wildlife. The museum provides you with your own nature notebook to record your studies.  Due to space limitations, please limit adults to the ratios found on p.56 of Volunteer Essentials (updated Safety-Wise) for this grade level: 2 adults for every 12 Girl Scout Brownies. Fee includes program materials and Try-It.

Girls should bring their own snack and drink to enjoy during a short break.

Program fee DOES NOT include admission to museum.

Spend the morning exploring the Discovery Museum Science & Space Center’s 14 acre nature area.  Earn theEarth Connections badge, by doing a hands-on study of the ecosystem and learn about the web of connections that ties plants, animals and the environment together.  Meet live animals and see how they adapt to their habitat and learn to identify trees and plants.  Please limit adults to the ratios found on p.56 of Volunteer Essentials (updated Safety Wise) for this grade level: 2 adults for every 20 Girl Scout Juniors.  Fee includes program materials and Badge.

Girls should bring their own snack and drink to enjoy during a short break.

Program fee DOES NOT include admission to museum.

Open to: Juniors, grade 4-5

D.R.E.A.M: Discover Robotic Engineering At the Museum

How would you like to meet other girls and work together to solve a problem? Now you can at the Discovery Museum Science & Space Center in the Robotics Lab. Cadettes get to be creative and work with technology, too.  In this exciting new Girl Scout Robotics program, girls learn how to build, program and operate their own robot using LEGO Mindstorms©.  This is a girl only event. Fee includes program materials and a Discovery Museum Pin. The LEGO Mindstorms© Education Kits are the property of the Discovery Museum.

Digging Through the Past Interest Project

Explore the exciting ways scientists uncover information about the past with the Discovery Museum Science & Space Center.  During this action packed day, Cadettes participate in seven activities needed to complete their Digging Through the Past Interest Project.  Girls should come ready to get dirty as they excavate a simulated archaeological site to learn about the people who once inhabited the area.  Take a hands-on role to prevent erosion of the creek channel running through the museum grounds.  Meet a professional geologist to learn about earthquakes.  Study fossils to investigate the history of the earth and the animals that lived in the past.  Fee includes program materials and Patch.

Girl Scout Badge Workshop

The Challenger Learning Center is currently offering one badge workshop for Junior Girl Scouts.  Successful completion of this workshop will fulfill all the requirements for the Sky Search badge. 

Challenger Learning Center Mission

Besides being great fun, the Challenger simulated space mission is an outstanding leadership and teamwork experience for both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.  Small groups can participate in our Community Mission.  Larger groups or a combination of two or three smaller troops can schedule a Private Mission.  For more information, see Community Missions and Private Missions.
