School Missions

School Mission

The Challenger Learning Center is more than a field trip. It is a learning experience that excites and inspires students in math, science, language arts, and technology. Using the wonder of space exploration and the power of simulation as educational tools, the Challenger simulated space mission launches students on an exciting voyage of discovery.

The entire Challenger experience, from pre-mission preparatory activities to post-mission celebration, is interactive, interdisciplinary, and exhilarating. Students apply knowledge they acquire in the classroom in a spectacular real-life situation. They develop and expand their communication, decision-making, and problem solving skills. Teamwork is a key element necessary for a successful mission. Students return to the classroom filled with confidence and enthusiasm for learning.

Preparation for and participation in each of the three scenarios meets many state and national content standards. Mission scenarios are developed by the Challenger Center for Space Science Education.

Extensive knowledge of space and astronomy is not required to participate in this program.
